Inaugural event of Amigos de Pakistan

The inaugural dinner of “Amigos de Pakistán”, was held at the Pakistan house Madrid. The gathering introduced the association of friends of Pakistan in Spain aimed at promoting cultural, educational and people-to-people connections between Pakistan and Spain.

The highlight of the event was live performances by renowned sitar maestro Ustad Ashraf Sharif Khan and tabla virtuoso Shahbaz Hussain, who presented Pakistan’s rich classical music tradition. The event was organized under the “Amigos de Pakistán” initiative to showcase Pakistan’s cultural richness, artistic traditions, tourism and buisness potential and the positive contributions of the Pakistani community in Spain.

On the occasion, former Senator Dimas Sañudo spoke about the idea of the “Amigos de Pakistán” initiative as a platform to strengthen friendship, cultural understanding and business and investment links between Pakistan and Spain.

Ms. Lucía Nayyar spoke about Pakistani music, its rich traditions and its ability to connect people across cultures. She highlighted the status of the two artists as leading performers in the classical tradition.

Ambassador of Pakistan to Spain Dr. Zahoor Ahmed welcomed the guests and both Ustad’s and underlined the importance of cultural diplomacy in strengthening mutual understanding between the peoples of Pakistan and Spain. He noted that “Amigos de Pakistán” aims to bring together individuals who share an interest in Pakistan’s culture, history, society and its economic partnership with Spain.

The event was attended by Spanish friends of Pakistan, cultural figures, academics, professionals and representatives of the Pakistani community in Spain.
